Marcus Mclaurine was born on May 7th 1952 in Omaha
Nebraska. Being born into a military family prepared
him for the rigorous travels of a professional
musician. He studied as a music major at the
University of Nebraska in Omaha. In 1976 he joined the
Air Force and was stationed 4 years at McGuire Air
Force Base as a member of the 590th Air Force Band.
While in military band he studied with Jack Kulawich,
a classical bassist with American Symphony. At the end
of his military term he moved to New York.
Marcus has been living in New York for the past 20
years. During that time he has had the opportunity to
perform several notables of Jazz; such as Clark Terry,
Kenny Burrell, Jon Hendricks, McCoy Tyner, Abbey
Lincoln, Cleo Laine, Lou Donaldson, Abdullah Ibrahim,
The Lionel Hampton Orchestra and The Count Basie
Orchestra.
Marcus has recorded with Clark Terry, Kenny Burrell,
Abbey Lincoln, Michael Cochrane, Grover Mitchell, John
Hicks, Hank Jones, Vincent Herring, Bob Trowers, Jay
Hoggard, Nancy Monroe. Marcus has travelled
extensively to Europe, Japan, Canada, as well as
throughout the United States.
